Beyond the Black Door by A.M. Strickland

5.0

4.5

The book starts off with kami growing up wondering what the black door is and it goes into the plot so quickly. With plot twists in every chapter. She can soul walk but can never tell anyone or she will be killed. Only problem? She doenst have a soul and wherever she goes when she soul walks this black door appears. Like any teenager she’s curious. But when she opens the black door, it was the worst mistake she’s ever done.. when she opens the black door the thing behind it gives her clues and gives her answers.

I only picked up this book because of the ace rep and it was amazing rep. I saw myself in the pages, I am a Bambi lesbian (basically a lesbian who doesn’t feel sexual attraction) and I’m so so sex repulsed and the way she described how she felt just felt so real. So I’d definitely recommend this book if ur aroace. Although we have to remember being aro is a spectrum. She does fall in love despite being aro. But YOU CAN fall in love if ur aro. And in this book it’s represented as she doesn’t feel love but she feels something werid for him and only him. She did an amazing job representing that.

Also this book did an amazing representation of what a queerplatonic relationship is as well. There is also no bigotry in this book, everyone is gay bi lesbian trans ace aro it DONT matter. And in the end she runs off with her trans ace bestie.

The only reason this book isn’t 5 stars is bc the world building is just relgious crap that bored me.

And disclaimer she doenst end up with the love interest which is so so good btw. Bc he symbolizes toxic relationships and as she says” you have to get out before it’s to hard and this is when” MUAH CHEFS KISSA EXCELLENTEEE
