I have to start out by simply saying, "Wow!" I have been trying to branch out of my comfort zone a bit with my reading by choosing books I normally wouldn't read. I still have some hard "no" spots and the "forbidden" barts of this book ran along that edge but I decided to go for it. It took a bit for me to get into the story because I needed to feel out if I was ok with everything going on and I have to admit that I am still in that gray area over how I feel about a lot of what happens in this book. So much is not ok, but so much is and there is so much emotion involved, so much anxiety... But that being said, this book is amazing!

The characters of Emery and Abe are so real, the secondary characters are fleshed out enough to also feel real and part of the story and not side characters. So much happens and there is so much emotion and so much heartache and love and indecision. Gianni Holmes handled the difficult issues raised in her book extremely well. She didn't glorify the cheating, didn't romanticize the coach/student aspect, or the age gap, or the best-friends father trope. It was balanced and over the top at the same time.

So much of of so many emotions happen in these 424 pages that when I finished the book, I said a 4-letter word, and sat in my chair trying to absorb it all as that book hangover feeling crept over me.
