The Southern Reach, a secret government agency, has sent eleven expeditions to investigate Area X. One ended in mass suicide, another in a hail of gunfire, the eleventh in a fatal cancer epidemic. Now four women embark on a twelfth expedition into the unknown.
The book so f*cking good I bought it twice. Annihilation is my perfect read. It's gross, its confusing, it contains an expedition, I love an expedition. Can this become a new trope? Must read all the books with expeditions.
As a book it reminded me so much of Our Wives Under The Sea because of the expedition element, but Annihilation scratched all the itches that Our Wives failed to. It got down to the nitty gritty, it showed us the super messed up stuff. I'm talking walls made of flesh covered in fungus that spell out words 💁🏻♀️
This is without a doubt a new favourite book, I can't pick a fault with it, it was the definition of *chef's kiss*. I loved it so much I had to order the beautiful MCD editions, and will be picking up book two Authority, as soon as it turns up on my doorstep. For now I'll leave you with another quote from the book... because I couldn't pick just one.
