The Only Child by Mi-ae Seo
3.0

TW: animal abuse, child abuse, arson, murder, suicide

This book has been on my TBR for quite a while now and I'm so glad I finally picked it up. Mi-Ae Seo has a unique strength for character development that I honestly don't think I've previously encountered. This was not as thrilling of a story as I had expected, but it definitely packed a punch in specific areas. I'd give this 3.5 stars for the following:

1. incredibly strong character development; she created such a strong profile for each and every character. I loved getting to know each character so deeply and intimately

2. heavily detailed and simply beautiful writing; "...death was not an endless darkness, but a momentary blackout. It was not disappearance, but displacement into another world." This was just one of many quotes I found myself reading over and over again because of how it moved me.

3. multiple perspectives; I love a good multi-perspective book, especially one that takes on perspectives of children and serial killers.
