Promise of Blood
by Brian McClellan
Loved the setting and the world, but I had some issues with the initial pacing and plot lines that clearly connected but felt a bit too scattered before it came together. The last 40% (ish) did save it for me, but there was issues with the execution for a brilliant idea and world. It's more a 3.5 star for me.
Yet I am a plot-driven reader with a big soft spot for good settings and worlds, so I'm tempted to read the next one to see if the writing gets redeemed or if it continues falling short. It had the elements to be great, but something made each chapter fall flat until the end.
But reading on is not going to be top priority for me, though I am willing to give the next book a try.
