Draußen vor der Tür by Wolfgang Borchert

4.0

"Einer von denen, die nach Hause kommen und die dann doch nicht nach Hause kommen, weil für sie kein Zuhause mehr da ist."
("One of those who come home but don't really come home because they don't have a home anymore.")

"Draußen vor der Tür" is a drama about Beckmann, a soldier that just returned from the second WW.
Beckmann has lost everything because of the war and that's why he tries to kill himself at the beginning of the book (but doesn't succeed).
During the story we see his constant struggle of wanting to stay alive and then not really wanting to be alive because of all he's lost.
It's one of those books that make you really sad because of how accurate and real something like this was for a lot of people.

I actually had to read this book for school and wasn't really excited for it. I'm normally not a huge fan of these books so it was a really nice surprise that I liked this so much.
