Claimed by Fangs and Darkness is the final installment of the Everlasting Possession duet and the fourth overall book in this world. If you have not read the Eternal Obsession duet, I highly recommend you read those books before finishing this duology as there many important Easter eggs and overlapping characters that appear throughout these pages. In fact, with the way this story ends, I believe we will be getting a full cross-over book that incorporates characters in both duologies which I am SO ecstatic about!
Every time I start a book from Maggie, I think "there's no way she's going to top the last one" and every time I am proven wrong. I am astounded by her beautiful writing style, intricate plot lines, unique world building, and the way she is able to draw every emotion from me. I love that all of her books in this universe have a strong emphasis on overcoming trauma and the accompanying healing journey that inevitably takes place through love. This second book emphasizes the importance of love from found family, siblings, and of course, significant others. Found family is so critical in my own life that my own heart bursts whenever I see this kind of love depicted in my favorite books. Of course, we see the relationship growth between Evie and Kylo and the turmoil that they go through both as a couple and individually. Their love knows no bounds and reminds me of what true love looks like, even if they are a bit unrealistically obsessive and possessive.
If you think reading is not political, I'd like to urge you to think more about the themes in this book. Most of the politics, if not all of them, mirror the current climate of oppression. Evie and Kylo heading the revolution against the oppressive powers serve as a reminder that all is NOT lost if we stand up and fight against it, even against all odds.
While Evie and Kylo are the main characters in this story, the side characters are unforgettable. Aster, Conrad, and Juliette are a lethal combination of pure evil and despite how much I despise them, I enjoyed learning more about their backstories. Juliette's character was complex and I was fascinated by her. On the other hand, Vesper, Idris, and many of the supporting good guys I felt so drawn to. Vesper's story I was emotional over and I have some theories about what's to come with her future.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this duet and I can't wait to see what's to come! This book would be perfect for you if you enjoy books with:
✨ dark romantasy (please check your triggers)
✨ overcoming trauma and healing journey
✨ political intrigue with rebellion against oppressive regimes
✨ found family
✨ vampires and witches
✨ paranormal elements and magic
Thank you so much to Maggie Sunseri for the eARC and having me as part of her incredible street team in exchange for this honest review!
