I have mixed feelings after finishing this one. I enjoyed the climax of it, even though I knew what was going to happen. I enjoyed the darker tone it took at the end when everything was unfolding. I was left wanting more though. This is one that was written and I can tell it has a very intentional sequel. We spent so long with one character trying to figure her out and suddenly we never see them again and we’re following someone else. I felt like the first 200 pages dragged on a little slow, but I’m also new to fantasy books that do huge lore dumps. But once the first shit really started to go down, I was really drawn in. There were several loose ends at the end, so I’d be interested to get my hands on the book. I really enjoyed this new approach to sci-fi being written about a civilization inspired by pre-Columbian societies, even knowing the controversy surrounding the author. I loved all the queerness represented in this book.
