The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson

Wow...

No, I mean it. When I tell you that by the last page of this book I JUMPED off my chair and celebrated like a football coach, I'm not exaggerating even a little bit. I couldn't stop smiling for 30 whole minutes after that, just delighting in the amazing story I had just read.

I had half a dozen theories about the ending, some happy, some sad and not even if I mashed them all together it would've been HALF as brilliant. The politics were on point, the decisions made, the evolution of the characters... EVERYTHING. This whole story has ONE sin (and let's be honest, I call it that as a compliment, tears were spilled) and even that I wouldn't change it even if I had the chance. Jeb. But even that, I wouldn't have changed because it would've taken away from how amazing I think this story is! Wars are an ugly thing after all...

I will admit that I felt like I missed a step through all three books every time we had their scriptures in between chapters, but even THAT paid off in the end in my eyes. At the start of the story I didn't think twice when anyone said the word "barbarian" yet in this book something in me recoiled in defence every time the word was used! The writing was once again, on point!

This book looked so big when I grabbed it, it evaporated before my very eyes! I was too deep in the story to realise I was flipping pages. One of my absolute favourite stories, for sure!

Paviamma.
