Yid
by Paul Goldberg
I simply don’t know how to feel about this book - I fear that my unfamiliarity with Russian culture and literature probably has a lot to do with the unease I felt reading this book.
The narrative voice is all over the place and a lot of minor characters are given rich backstories only to be a non-factor just pages later. I laughed a lot at the gallows humour but found it inconsistent.
Interesting characters for sure. And a intriguing, if confusing, story. But it was hard to get through for me. Mainly finished it out of stubbornness.
