quadrille 's review for:
Death Masks
by Jim Butcher
More great expansion into Dresden's world with the Fallen & more Knights of the Cross -- and I especially appreciated the reappearance of Michael and Thomas, considering they were some my favourite things about Grave Peril. For some reason this book fell a little flat with me, though, and I didn't experience as much unbridled enjoyment as with the previous? I might say that it's because I like faeries a lot, but truly, I love demons most. So I don't know.
It had some v. emotional scenes with a certain familiar face and a certain new face; I adored all of the new characters (Shiro, Sanya, Anna, and ABOVE ALL Kincaid and the Archive); the villains are powerful and intriguing; and learning more about Johnny Marcone was probably the best thing about this for me. But I don't know, something still held me back, and I have difficulties articulating exactly what.
