hailstorm9 's review for:
A Monster Calls
by Patrick Ness
This book is beautifully heartbreaking. I sat down and read this novel in probably an hour and I was bawling by the end of it. Quick reads are always important to have on your to-read list because they can be surprising and help break up the monotony of your reading list.
I liked that the monster in the story was not scary in the way monsters usually are. Usually monsters are dark and surprising and evil, but the monster in this story is scary because he’s wise and he knows the truth about the universe and he makes Conor face his fears dead on. That was almost scarier for me as an adult who does not like to face her own fears. (Haha)
I really can not say much else because this is the type of book to just be enjoyed and experienced without having the opinion of other readers in the back of your head.
