The Girls in the Garden by Lisa Jewell

3.0

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)

The Girls in the Garden is my fourth book by Lisa Jewell! She’s one of my favorite authors and I usually rate her books 4-5 stars. With that being said, I liked this book, but I didn’t love it!

The book starts off with Grace being found unconscious and bloodied in the communal park. Throughout the first half of the book, we dive into the backstory of what happened to cause her to end up in that situation and the second half is what happens after she was found.

This book had me questioning who did it and then changing my mind every chapter that a big secret was revealed till the end and honestly it still has me questioning it. (If you’ve read the book then you know what I mean)

Things I liked:
- That at the beginning of the book, there is a map of the community. It really helped picturing how close everyone was in the community and where the events took place. I would often refer back to this map when it would mentioned where someone lived.
- The letters Pip writes her dad
- With the title, I thought something completely different than what is meant by the girls in the garden and halfway I was like oooooh that’s what it means

Things I didn’t like:
- The ending!! I felt like it ended abruptly and I still have questions.
- Ugh, where is the justice?!
- I hate when kids tell their parents that someone makes them uncomfortable and they just shrug it off
