Montana Sanctuary by Josie Jade, Janie Crouch

My first read in this series and it certainly ticks all the required boxes for a suspense/woman on the run romance. I didn’t love it, but it was an enjoyable audiobook (although Emma Wilder’s narration always sounds like she’s on the verge of bawling?)
Evelyn’s past is especially horrific and I really wanted her to have a happy ending. An evil ex pushing her to run and change identities every so many months? Exhausting. The idea of a ranch where traumatized war veterans work with therapy animals to help others with PTSD was unique and I really enjoyed the discussion around mental health (this is one of the more accurate portrayals of PTSD I’ve read in romance, so kudos for that!)
I guess my only real qualm is that I don’t feel like we get any….background on our MCs besides their trauma? It would have been nice to know some background on Lucas and Evelyn that didn’t revolve around their PTSD, which is essentially all we know.
I’m still interested in the other books in the series, because I think the authors did a wonderful job at teasing future couples!
CW: PTSD, domestic violence, war flashbacks, violence/torture
