A Dying Colonialism by Frantz Fanon

dark emotional inspiring

3.5

Overall, I found this book interesting and enjoyable. It's worth mentioning that it's very Algeria-specific rather than colonialism in general. It's a fascinating view into the mindset of colonized people and the Algerian revolutionary struggle and how it impacted language, family dynamics, and even technological adaptations. As ever, Fanon is erudite, persuasive, and compelling. His writing makes it very easy to empathize with people far removed in both time, space, and background. It's a relatively short book but packs a heavy emotional punch. It's a fascinating deep dive but it's not perfect. I did enjoy his exploration of the gender dynamics in play and highlighting the role of women in the revolution.
