I'm a big romance fan but don't read a lot of gothic novels as I'm a massive wuss and sometimes find them a bit scary. Honestly, after reading this book I am a total convert to the gothic romance subgenre! This was an absolutely fantastic read, which I struggled to put down. Think Phantom of the Opera x Beauty and the Beast, and add the slowest of slow burns, lots of pining, all the feelings and finally, unbelievably hot sex.

Isla is an antiques evaluator, sent to a creepy castle in Scotland to evaluate the contents in order to sell them. The owner, Ethan, is blind and (he believes) disfigured after an accident, suffering from PTSD, depression and self-hate. He is also brooding, full alpha and sexy as hell. As the story develops, it becomes clear that something sinister is happening in the castle - it's only Isla's growing attraction to Ethan that stops her from running a mile.

I appreciate it isn't for everyone but I absolutely love the
unexpected baby after they've broken up trope
and I literally cheered when the book reached that point. The whole story was just a delight for me, even the spooky bits lol.

I won't go into too many details and I am not an expert, but to me, the tricky, sensitive topics were written with a great deal of respect and empathy. Note that there is a trigger warning list at the end of the ebook, accessible via the contents page, which I think many readers would appreciate.

This is a fantastic debut from this author and I eagerly await her future romance offerings!
