This was a great collection of essays - a good mix of funny, depressing and thought-provoking. Mom, this book includes a really good profile of Garry Trudeau that I think you would like. I really enjoyed the piece about the man who was the ghostwriter for the Hardy Boys series. Well, it was kind of depressing but it was interesting to think about a good writer who is paid to do bad writing. I absolutely loved the piece in which the author tracked down the girl he had a crush on in second grade. It was funny to read his take on childhood crushes and social divisions and also to see how tricky memory can be. "Fear Itself", about the author riding a bus in Jerusalem - on a route which had been a frequent target of suicide bombers - was gripping and eye-opening. "Fatal Distraction," about parents of children who die after being left in the car in hot weather, was chilling and really difficult to read. But I am glad I did. Like Katie said, I feel like there is something in here for everyone.
