such a tender, careful exploration of the human psyche. it wasnt always pretty and it wasnt always comfortable but it was always, always honest. somehow, despite the violence, there was also always an undercurrent of gentleness throughout. yunjae talks of his difficulty with emotions, of how different he is from his peers, yet his love for the people close to him is embedded all throughout his thoughts and actions. it really makes you feel at the end of the day humans are made to love in whichever form that may be. this book is about introspection, its about complicated family relationships, its about being different, its about grief. its about finding your place in the world, its about the desperation to be seen, its about being children. above all, almond is about love. i finished this book with an ache in my heart that was so so worth it. loved it <3
