I think this is the lowest I've rated a Susanna Kearsley book. The first half of this book is sooooo slow. Once I hit the 200 page mark or so I was able to fly through but I've been trying to read those 200 pages off and on for 3 years. I finally succeeded and I'm happy I did but unlike her other books, I won't be rereading this one.
I usually really enjoy the blend of contemporary and historical settings in her novels, but this one didn't have the same sense of magical realism the others have and I think that's ultimately what I enjoyed the least in this book. The two stories felt like parallels that never touched.
