Our Hideous Progeny by C.E. McGill
4.5
I absolutely adored this. It was VERY reminiscent of Marie Brennan’s Lady Trent series which I also love.
The parallel between Mary feeling as though she failed at creating life after the loss of her daughter, and her determination in succeeding at recreating Frankenstein’s work was genius. I loved that this book took on so many themes and explored all of them in ways that complimented each other (child loss, the ethics of reanimation, sexism, nature vs nurture, etc.)
It would have been 5 stars only I wanted the ending to be a bit more impactful(I was hoping for harsher consequences for Henry and for the romance between Mary and Maisie to be just a little bolder)
