There are some great ideas here, but I just found the narrative style quite tricky to get on board with. There’s no music or artistry in the sentence structure. It doesn’t flow well nor capture the reader’s attention. At times it is stilted, repetitive and dull and it is strewn with many cliches. There were some moments where it was literally spelt out how the characters were feeling with zero sense of subtext whatsoever. The dialogue is also quite forced. It doesn’t feel naturalistic or how people actually communicate with each other. It more feels like characters cosplaying xmen tbh.

Banging cliffhanger though, I have to say.
