My first King. It was what I expected and more: interesting, hard to put down, mysterious and thrilling.
I would like to give 3.5 stars, but seeing that Goodreads won't allow me a similar nuance, I'll be generous and round it up to 4 stars.
Style-wise, I have no remarks. King knows how to engage a reader and keep them hanging onto every word. His writing style is fluent and elegant, never "flat" or "not-worth-your-while" (as sometimes is the case with "entertaining", popular, "trivial reading" - if you will excuse me this disparaging terminology).
The reason why I don't reward this book with 5 stars is that around p. 500, King lost me a little. The plot became a little too far-fetched (). It pushed my willing suspension of disbelief to its limits. (And this coming from a fantasy-fan with a huge and wild imagination says tons, if I may say so myself.)
However, I am not deterred in the slightest to go and pick up another King next time I see one. The thrill of finding out what was in stall for me in the next chapter or even on the next page that I felt while reading this book is enough for me to further dive into King's oeuvre in the future.
Overall rating: 3.5 stars.

coral-covered, fishy, Davy-Jonesesque-ship-crew zombies; an impossible to kill, named after Greek goddess, mysterious, at times illogical baddie Perse(phone); "damaged" people with unexplainable psychic superpowers...
