I love love love horror, but I’ve never jived with the paranormal. Not in movies, and certainly not in books. But now I’m questioning everything because I LOVED this book. I was genuinely unsettled and set on-edge by the plot of this story. Regarding the characters, I felt comforted and held by the authentic depictions of friendship between them. Ames did not neatly tie up all of this book’s loose ends nor solve all of its mysteries, and I don’t think it would have felt true to the heart of it if she did. And yet my only complaint is that the ending that didn’t seem to meet the expectations of my progressively building excitement.
