The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker
5.0

I finally read this book after hearing raved reviews about it for so long. I loved it so much.

We follow Calla who lives in Toronto but was born in Alaska. She never got to know her father because she left Alaska with her mom when she was 2 and her father stayed behind to run his plane business. At 26 years old she gets a phone call that her father is dying of lung cancer and she decides to go to Alaska because this may be her only chance to see him. Calla's love interest is Jonah who works as a pilot for her father. I initially hated him but he slowly grew on me. At first, Calla is a stereotypical city girl with a fashion blog and Jonah is a stereotypical country manly man. They do not get along but they slowly develop an understanding that grows into more.

This book is a romance but at its core, it's a story about Calla and her family. This book covers a father and daughter's complicated relationship, reconciliation, grief, hope, love, family, friendship, and the Alaskan landscape. Alaska really is a character within the story because life in Alaska is vastly different from Calla's life in the city. The descriptions of Alaska make you feel like you're there. Now I want to read all of the books set in Alaska.

I can’t wait for Calla and Jonah’s story to continue in the sequel.
