Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding
2.0

Funny but completely pointless. I respect the author's talent for humor and that's why this isn't getting 1 star. I just couldn't like this book-- I wanted to, but I found Bridget unbearably obnoxious. Contrary to what the cover says, Bridget Jones is definitely not me. Or anyone I'd want to associate with. Her low self-esteem was probably the most rattling thing about this book for me. It was such a disempowering stance for women that I actually felt a misplaced anger towards her character. To compare this to Pride & Prejudice, which has the willful strong female lead Elizabeth Bennet, is laughable. One of the rarer instances where the movie is far better.
