Milk Fed by Melissa Broder

3.0

A very solid three stars. This book appears to be quite polarizing and I can see why. It's clear that Melissa Broder has her own distinct style. Her main character, Rachel, straddles the line between asshole and likable. I feel like Broder did an exceptional job of making Rachel just introspective enough to remain likable and real. While I genuinely enjoyed the book, I wish I was prepared for how erotic it was. At first, it felt cool to read sex scenes between two women written by a woman, but the second half is DOMINATED by sex and it borders on the pornographic. At these points, we lose the plotlines of disordered eating and fractured/toxic mother-daughter relationships and it's shame because the first half was so engaging. Overall though, a very worthwhile read.
