When Aidan Became a Brother by Kyle Lukoff
5.0
When Aidan was born, everyone thought he was a girl. But as he grew, he realized that “girl” just didn’t fit. His loving family helped him settle into being a boy. But now that his mom is pregnant, Aidan wants to be sure that his new sibling doesn’t encounter the same challenges that he did.
The artwork in this book is breathtaking. The vivid colors are stunning and the additional details portrayed add so much to the overall story.
Last year, my sister called to ask about books to help explain transgender to my nephew as one of their family friend’s child was transitioning. I searched and searched but could not really find anything that was perfect. THIS fits that bill! I love the simple explanations, the artwork that helps convey the message, and the all-encompassing love & acceptance that bounces off the pages. Even better? When Aidan Became a Brother features non-White characters! I was absolutely giddy when I saw that.
My love affair with books from Lee and Low Publishing gets stronger and stronger. I simply adore how inclusive their stories are, how diverse the artwork is, and how representative their authors & illustrators are. What a fantastic publishing company – and this book is a good example of how awesome their catalog is.
