The Spy by Sophie Lark

4.0

How the hell is there a 5th book after that ending? Everything was practically wrapped up with a bow, so I'm confused on how there is a book 5. I'm trash, so I'll still read it though.

The Spy tied the Kingmaker's series together perfectly, unraveling the mysteries from previous books and tying together the loose ends from other characters' stories. Where this book shined wasn't the romance, but the action, family dynamics, and secrets uncovered. So, while there is a romance and it is supposed to be a large focus of the book, that was the least impressive part of it for me.

The romance felt very stale, and I wasn't feeling these characters' connection with each other. There were moments that were cute, but I never felt the fire between them like Cat and Dean or Leo and Anna. They were the most forgettable couple to me, and this could partially be because the emergence of a certain couple that I love being a large focus of this story.

However, the action? The ending? All were perfectly executed! It was just the romance that couldn't allow me to give this 5 stars.
