Requiem for a Dream
by Hubert Selby Jr.
“[she wanted] to transpose her inner feelings to the surface of the canvas… to express her attitude through her art, to have her sensitivity seen and felt.”
The movie expresses so much more than this book ever did for me. Although I can appreciate some scenes in the book, the writing style is messy and detracted much of the story, not to mention the terrible use of grammar and punctuation. Most of the time spent reading, I was trying to figure out who was talking because there are no quotations marks for any of the dialogue…
Overall, this book is one of those instances where the movie adaptation is better than the original.
