The Four Leaf
by Lee Jacquot
Rating: 1.5 stars
I really wanted to like this since people recommended this after Mother's Day Inn. Unfortunately, I think a couple of things happened:
1. I don't think primal play is something I am necessarily into. Nothing against it.
2. The "friend-zone" and being rejected were so weak.
3. This didn't feel like a friends-to-lovers, more like simmering tension.
At no point throughout this novella did I feel like they were actually friends. Like, he comes in and then there is just tension throughout every scene but I didn't feel their chemistry really? Like, it was nice to hear about the moments where he hangs out on her couch and some childhood memories. This book immediately throws that to the side as if they aren't best friends and just people who want to get it on. Which, this is kind of what I should expect from novellas. But, the balance felt off in comparison to Mother's Day Inn. Spicy scenes were around a 1.5 as well, it was there and in detail but was a smidge step above vanilla for me.
