this was way darker than i expected but in a beautifully gothic way. and it is YA but i also would say this is very much a dark romance and would warn that there is an uncomfortable age gap between the MC and the LI. 

it has really rich world building that by the end leaves you desperate for more, and i cannot wait to continue this story (especially with that reveal at the end!) 

the first half of the book is slow and depressing, but i've found that's pretty common for romantic gothic tales, so if you're the kind of person that can wait for the build, you will like this book.
