Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier

This was, for the most part, a phenomenal read and will hold a really big place in my heart. The world building, the folklore, and the depth of emotion in this book truly moved me and I can see why it’s such a cult classic in the fantasy community. However, I am still beyond maddened by the one huge blip in an otherwise amazing book - an extremely graphic and upsetting r*pe. I am growing so weary with what seems to be a common writing trope - including sexual assault as a really lazy way to give the MC trauma and depth. It shouldn’t be used so flippantly as a plot device and it DEFINITELY does not need to be written in detail.
