The teenage male character in the book are not that great. Everyone tries to warn Brooklyn about Felix yet she still hangs out with him, and she see he is not a good influence when she gets grounded for his actions. He promised her Uncle that she would be home and curfew and wouldn't drink yet he pushed her to drink at the party. He even offers her drugs to help her feel better, if that doesn't send her running to the hills nothing will. She never stands up for herself either. She always says she going to give Felix a piece her mind yet she never does. She is always running to him because she doesn't want to be alone, even though she kissed Matt TWICE. Felix doesn't deserve someone who is not committed to him, no one does. Matt is not that great of a person either, yet every time he kisses her she always returns to him. She should be running in the other direction. Matt used her to Get Felix to stop selling drugs to James. He should have never asked her to get involved in the first place. He never even trusts Brooklyn with the secret Isabella has on him. He lies to her all the time to and tells her to not be with Felix anymore even though he knows that is one of her only friends in school, she only has TWO for crying out loud. He knows all of this yet still asks her not to be with him, even though he won't hang out with her in public areas. Brooklyn is not a very good person either. She never sticks to her decision, she lets herself be persuaded by teenage boys with kisses, instead of stick up for what she believes. Her mother just died she needs to heal herself and not be caught up in teenage drama. She needs time to grieve and accept her mother is gone. That is what I personally think about the book, but you should still read it yourself and see if your thought align with mine.
