We continue the saga. I'm happy that going forward, I will read the series without knowing what is going on. There is no more beautiful anime to spoil it for me. I can't believe I have to wait so long for the next season!
The beginning was a bit slow for me, but it really picked up after that. Maomao really does get herself into bad situations, but she does have people in her corner to keep her relatively safe. I love her heart and I love her obsessions. Even when she's a prisoner, she's hilarious.
This was the end of a large arc, so we got a lot of information regarding the motives. There is a lot to absorb, and occasionally, I had to go back and try to get some clarity. I don't know if that's the author's writing or the fact that this is translated. Translation will always lose some things. I will not complain. I'm glad I get to read this series in English.
The volume ends with Maomao working in the pleasure district again. She is no longer needed in the rear palace, and she can't work for Jinishi for reasons. I'm very interested in seeing where things go from here. I hope that future novels keep up with the little mysteries that lead to an overarching plot. I really enjoy that format.
