I’m someone who likes true crime, but I understand the danger and how quickly it can be seen as fictitious entertainment. This book takes a look at true crime through the eyes of enthusiasts, cynics, and opportunists and paints a picture of modern society as it falls out of touch with reality. I did like the angle this book took with the subject matter and I think it’s an important discussion to have, but I also don’t love how it was written.
There is too much narrative and and too many excerpts (which I know is part of the point!!!!) that is became hard to follow and really took me out of the story. I also grew up with this type relationship with the internet so reading it from an outsiders perspective was definitely weird.
Definitely a good read for bookclub though!
