I impulsively decided to read this while waiting to pick up other books to read and honestly it was surprisingly short.
To sum up my feelings pretty quick: I liked everything that wasn't the mystery. In some ways, the versions of Sherlock and Watson in this book were very different than the pop culture versions of Sherlock and Watson that I knew so it surprised me; in others it was accurate. I liked their dynamic with each other and the world.
The actual mystery was like kind of interesting but it lost me when they found the killer and he spends about 1/3 of the book just talking and explaining his life story/motivation for the killings and I just wasn't into it. The motivation/backstory was a mix of boring/basic & weird.
Nothing great, nothing terrible, just boring and drawn out with a bit of amusement there. I think the next Sherlock books I'll read is Hounds of Baskerville since I know that a lot of people think of that as the best one. Or maybe one of the books which is just a bunch of short stories. We'll see! As me even picking this up even shows I can sometimes read impulsively.
