I had high hopes for this book and was not disappointed. It was such an excellent read with an adorable romance.
Each character felt very distinct and rounded. While I didn’t fully understand EVERY motivation, the way the characters were written made me trust there was a good reason. The skill of character writing showed best with Amarante who felt realistic and solid. She felt like an actual teenager and was a compelling MC. And this enjoyment of her and the other characters really sold me on their relationship dynamics.
Most of the issues I had were actually pretty minor. Some plot beats felt rushed, but it was only a couple. Some character moments lacked proper buildup and attention, but again it was only one or two. Finally, knowing she’s the MC of the next book, I was a little disappointed the time spent with her for extended periods didn’t give us more insight to her or warm the reader up to her.
Overall, great book and I HIGHLY recommend it.
Moderate: Bullying, Confinement, Police brutality, Kidnapping, Classism
