“Believe in Me” by Alexandria House is a compelling narrative that intricately explores themes of healing, second chances, and the transformative power of love. Following the journey of Renee Strickland, the oldest of the Strickland sisters, the novel dives deep into her path to recovery after a devastating and toxic marriage. Renee’s commitment to her midwifery practice and her determination to heal herself without the distractions of a new romance create a relatable and inspiring protagonist. However, the entrance of Lorenzo, a character with a complex past of his own, adds an unexpected twist to her story.

Lorenzo, affectionately known as Zo, is a retired gangster turned successful street literature writer. His immediate attraction to Renee, sparked during a significant family event, introduces a humorous yet intensely passionate dynamic to the story. Zo’s determination to win Renee over, despite her reservations, is both entertaining and heartwarming. His character, with a background that includes street ties and personal struggles, including abandonment issues, adds depth and realism to the narrative.

The relationship between Renee and Zo is marked by witty banter and undeniable chemistry, making their interactions a highlight of the novel. House skillfully uses their relationship to explore the complexities of embracing love after experiencing grief and the challenges of navigating family drama and unresolved past conflicts.
