June BOTM pick. The biggest flaw of this book is that the denouement rushed together in maybe 50 pages after 300 much slower and more deliberately paced pages of build up. It's not a short book, but I think the ending could have used a little more space to breathe (or a second book, even) to hit a really satisfying note.

That being said, I enjoyed this immensely. The treatment of magic was fascinating and fun and different from anything else I can think of off the top of my head. The sisters were both compelling protagonists in their own rights and even Nicholas' "rich fuck struggling to do the right thing" arc was enjoyable. Not a perfect book, but well worth a read.
