Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

dark fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

3.0

What lured me was the name. "Boy Parts", should be interesting? And the cover looked captivating too.

Irina is a fetish photographer. She scouts her models and explores them in an unhinged manner. It is very dark and disturbing. And I had to take breaks from reading in between.

First Irina appears to be the typical wannabe "photographer" who claims to be different. Then we are given more insights to her character, her family, friends and relationships.

The main theme is the power dynamics. How power dynamics transfers from a person to the other during the course of time is explored. Also Irina toys with the concept of "consent". She is narcissistic and manipulative.

But I can't lie as I enjoyed reading the book. It is written in such a way that you have to keep reading to know what happens next. I could understand what the hype was about.

If you are planning to read this, please look into trigger warnings beforehand as this is graphical and disturbing. Now I'm so in need of a palate cleanser. I would like to reader the author's other works also, but maybe after sometime.
