theatlantean 's review for:
The Origin of Species
by Charles Darwin
I did not realise how comprehensively Darwin catalogued different morphologies in disparate branches of the natural world. This is a book of science. Propositions are made, they are given an extreme amount of detailed explanation and many examples are provided. Continually, falsification is applied, as Darwin suggests what would destroy his theory in each case, and he compares the evidence across other theories and shows why Natural Selection explains the reality, not just better than competing ideas, but makes them all look incredibly foolish, as they fail to meet even a fraction of the conditions explained by Darwin's theory.
It is unsurprising, given the richness and scientific rigour of the theory of inherited characteristics via the mechanism of Natural Selection, that this work remains unchallenged in its essence today, and into the foreseeable future.
