Beautifully written accounts of a wide range of creatures such as spiders, tuna, storks and the eponymous golden moles. Rundell included incredible facts about the anatomy and habits of animals, as well as their places in mythology and folklore. She wrote with such passion, which was clearly intended to make the reader appreciate the huge importance each animal has, even the humble spider. I found this book utterly compelling, fascinating and inspiring. It’s a book that I can tell is going to really stay with me.
Moderate: Animal cruelty and Animal death
Warning: The chapter on tuna really put me off Robert de Niro. I wasn’t planning on eating at Nobu, but their inclusion of blue fin tuna on their menu has guaranteed I’ll never eat there out of principle.
