Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow started off with an array of interesting ideas, characters and a rather simple but engaging story. As I advanced through the book, I just couldn’t relate to this book and I struggled to keep my focus on it. The characters were well written and the dynamics were interesting to unpack. However, I found the two main characters rather childish, selfish and obtuse. To me, it made them rather hard to read or care about. Over the years that unfolded, I had hoped that we’d see them develop themselves into loving people. (I love a good personal development trope!) There was an intense “victim” vibe from them that I just didn’t like. The other main character was my favorite however; I found myself frustrated how the other characters didn’t honor or least name how exceptional their friend is often and always. There’s something to be said about the lack of reciprocal connection there but I’m still unpacking that as a reader.

I was interested in the world of game design initially since I grew up on the Oregon Trail, Mario Kart and other classic games. I thought gaming and game design was fascinating and fun to learn about throughout the book. Zevin did an awesome job bringing the reader into that world and honestly those were the parts of the book I looked forward too.

This book is highly recommended almost everywhere…and I get it but don’t. For me as a reader something was just missing and I’m not sure if I care to find it really. I’m excited to read more Zevin’s books in the future because I found the writing style fabulous. The story, for me, is a no. I can’t imagine revisiting or caring about these characters again.
