The Housemaid is a very dark and twisted thriller.
Millie is a struggling ex-convict who cannot keep a job. Tired of living in her car, she is finally hired as a maid working for the Winchesters’. Everyday, she cooks, cleans and takes care of their daughter Cecilia. But, after working for the Wincheseters for so long, she discovers that they have a dangerous secret far darker than her own.
I have been hearing so many things about The Housemaid all over my social media and I had to pick it up to see what the hype is all about.
My eyes have been glued to this book ever since I picked it up. For those who want to pick up The Housemaid, please go into this book without trusting anyone! I really enjoyed the flow of this story. It was medium-fast paced and exactly what I needed. I will be honest and say that some of the plot twists were predictable. The final plot twist at the end of the book is what really surprised me.
I knocked my rating down to 4.5 stars because I believe there shouldn’t be a sequel to this story. This would’ve been so much better if this were a standalone. I also wish that there was a trigger warning list because a lot of abuse has happened to some characters and it was just a lot to take in at times. I do understand why this author didn’t mention one because it would ruin the whole story but still it would’ve been nice.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It’s an incredible domestic thriller and I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future. At the moment, I went ahead a picked up her latest novel The CoWorker and I’m very excited!
