The second installment of the Expanse series is a banger. That is mainly due to the introduction of Bobbie Draper and Chrisjen Avasarala. A Martian Marine and a politician at the top of her game. I loved seeing these two women interact. They are so much the polar opposites of one another that seeing them work together and bond was so much fun to read. I was always excited with a Bobbie or an Avasarala chapter came up.
I have heard The Expanse described as Game of Thrones set in space, and I can really see that comparison in this novel. Political power moves, and a mysterious looming threat are the main motif. But, there is an underlying hopefulness here that human kind can do the right thing if we just listen to each other, that I don’t see in GOT.
