A Nancy Drew Christmas by Carolyn Keene

5.0

This book absolutely has no business being as good as it was. For a book with such a young target demo though, it was kind of shocking how overtly political it was. Justice reform? Insider trading? Oil lobbyists? What kid is gonna even know an eighth of the nuance there?

This was honestly probably once of the best mystery plots I have ever had the pleasure of reading in my entire life. Just when you think it can’t get crazier, it does. When I say unpredictable, but deliciously plausible (the clues are there, so it’s not a cop-out mystery like some novels where the culprit is a secret twin or whatever).

Also, like this was quite a violent book since it’s aimed at elementary schoolers. Knife throwings? Axes? Crossbows? High-speed chases? Multiple people in this book almost died multiple times each! This could probably easily be adapted into a YA book.

I’m not 100% sure on the ghostwriting set-up for this series, but everyone who worked on this book deserves a raise because WOW.
