After having loved Fangirl Down, this one was a tad disappointing. I still enjoyed it, but I wish I had been able to enjoy it more.
FMC Tallulah is great. She comes off as this sweet, down to earth girl who cares deeply for the people in her life. She has some reservations about being alone with men due to a past trauma, and this is a big part of her and our MMC Burgess's relationship.
MMC Burgess is fine. He's very hot headedand tbh if I were Tallulah, I would've not gone back to him after that third act breakup. He's a single dad and hockey player. He appears very standoffish yet also cares deeply about the people in his life. I could tell he really cared about Tallulah, but sometimes the overprotectiveness he had over her felt more fatherly than romantic ☠️
Honestly, I wasn't thrilled with all of the events in this story. The chemistry between Tallulah and Burgess was there but it didn't seem natural? It was kind of an odd vibe imo.
However, I did like that Burgess was always considerate of Tallulah's feelings and always made sure she was comfortable before doing anything.
I just really don't like thatit took Burgess calling Tallulah a coward in a moment of rage for her to finally go have adventures and call her family. It was a huge moment for Tallulah and I feel like it's tainted by Burgess's outburst.
In terms of a romance, this was good. It had all the elements one would look for in a steamy hockey romance. Although the hockey wasn't super present in this one like the golf was in Fangirl Down. 🤔 Regardless, still an enjoyable read for me. If you enjoy spicy romances, you'd probably enjoy this one!
