Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon

5.0

I can’t even find the words to talk about this book. It was devastating, gut-wrenching, heart-breaking, fueled with anger and disappointment, but also so raw, inspiring and moving. It hit me in the feels in ways I was not prepared for because I was not expecting to find so much of my self in the words of Kiese Layman, but I did. Our lives couldn’t be more different, but, nonetheless, I found so much that resonated with my life. The writing was also beautiful, albeit pretty simple and straightforward; every word and sentence felt so poignant and powerful. I’m in awe.
