I think Julia Armfield has some of the most beautiful prose I've ever read. I was already a huge fan of it after reading Salt Slow, but watching it manifest into something much bigger over the course of an entire novel was even better. This book is a slow burn; hours of unsettling build-up that results in a horrific end. It's satisfying in a dark way, a genre of horror that I've grown very fond of. I'm keen to re-read this with a close attention to detail.
