“But I think right here, right now, if the room was burning down around us, I’d be content to let it. As long as I got to do it with him.”
This is a beautifully written second chance romance. Aurora and Isaiah have absolutely stolen my heart and I’m so excited for everyone to read this!
K. Jamila did such a great job at telling these characters’ individual stories while seamlessly weaving in their love story. These two grounded each other in ways nobody else could, and I loved being able to see them navigate conflicts together instead of letting more things pull them apart. Aurora is an incredibly strong and complex heroine, who always feels the need to be resilient. Isaiah is so much more than a book boyfriend. He’s flawed and persistent and such a grounding presence when Aurora needs him to be. And he’s POET? With TATTOOS AND GLASSES? Sign me up ✍🏽
The relationships outside of our two main characters were also so special. I loved spending time with Aurora’s friends and family. Seeing a main character with a full support system is so rare, so that was refreshing. (Daddy issues not to be overlooked.)
What stood out to me the most was how this story was told. A lot of the dialogue is quick and witty, but the prose is sweeping and poetic. This book has some of the most beautiful love declarations I’ve ever read.
